"We, the members of the Brevard Band program, strengthened by our love for music and respect for one another, will embrace our differences and stand united as a family of musicians to create a culture that reflects our hard work, commitment, passion, and adoration for music. Remembering our past and rising to the challenges of our future, we will uphold an honorable reputation for our band program and serve as a symbol of pride to our school and the Brevard community."

History of the Brevard Band

The Brevard High School Band program began in 1945 when the Ecusta Band was organized through the support of the Ecusta Paper Corporation. The then 40-piece band was composed of taleted children of Ecusta employees and all instruments were provided to children by Ecusta. The band was transferred to the jurisdiction of Transylvania County Schools on January 1, 1953. The Brevard band has a record of consistent superior ratings at the state and district concert band festival that dates back to the late 1950s. The band was twice selected to perform at the State Music Educator's Conference in Winston Salem. In 1982, the band was selected to perform at the Mid-East Instrumental Music Conference in Pittsburgh, Pa., where it was guest conducted by the internationally acclaimed composer Alfred Reed. Since that, the band has seen enormous growth and continued success, creating a tradition of excellence and source of pride within Brevard High School and the Brevard community.
